As the second generation in the spring industry, and with over 50 years combined experience in all phases of spring making, we started SSC in 1983. During our formative years, we did many spring related jobs, from secondary finishing to making prototype models of small assemblies.

It became evident that it would be difficult to compete with the larger spring companies, making ordinary compression and extension springs. We had to offer our customers a unique product, not made by other spring companies.

We decided to pursue the type springs we knew best, spiral torsion springs. Our Vice President had served on the "Spring Manufacturing Institute" technology committee for many years and assisted in the rewriting of the "Spring Design Manual", concentrating his expertise on spiral torsion and power springs. His engineering background and knowledge of these springs, lead us to realize that this was the "niche" market that we had been looking for.

In 1991, it became evident that the space we were leasing, was far too small. We began looking for additional space and found our current facility. It is an 8000 sq. ft. building located on 2.5 acres, 60 miles west of Chicago, and 20 miles south of Rockford.
